Introduction
Under the leadership of President Tsai-Yen Lee, the University Social Responsibility (USR) project is a key initiative through which NCCU fulfills its social mission. Led by Vice President Shu-Heng Chen and coordinated by Associate Professor Shinn-Shyr Wang from the Department of Economics, the project began with a focus on supporting marginalized groups and is dedicated to long-term, community-based engagement.
The Ankang community has faced challenges of social stigma and marginalization, making it difficult to coexist harmoniously with surrounding neighborhoods. This project aims to promote " integration fostering co-benefit, and co-benefit promoting mutual well-being." By leveraging academic resources and student implementation to respond to community needs and encourage diverse understanding and interaction.
The project integrates courses, student teams, clubs, and community partners to create hands-on learning opportunities for students. Through strategies such as diverse empowerment, intergenerational collaboration, and rooted education, it fosters positive community interaction and strengthens local bonds. Ultimately, the project aims to work with diverse local partners to co-create a varied, warm, and friendly community.
