Due to the implementation of the social housing policy, the original residents of the Ankang affordable housing have experienced successive demolitions and reconstructions, gradually relocating to the newly completed Xinglong social housing. The Ankang community is set to start its third phase of redevelopment. All remaining residents currently living in the Ankang community are expected to be relocated to the newly completed Xinglong social housing.
The project has found that as interactions increase between the diverse populations from the affordable housing and surrounding neighborhoods, differences in background often lead to misunderstandings and friction, impacting overall community cohesion.
To implement the project team’s vision of building a diverse and varied community, this phase focuses on identifying shared interests and goals among marginalized groups and surrounding neighbors. Programs and courses are designed and implemented within the community to support this aim.
The project is structured around four key areas: Community Care, Educational Connection, Cross-cultural Communication, and Cooperative Co-benefiting. By finding intersections among these areas, the project seeks to foster mutual understanding through interaction and promote a varied, coexisting community.
Support diverse local groups through empowerment and interaction to promote community co-benefits.
Encourage mutual understanding among different cultural groups through language learning and cultural exchange activities.
Leverage NCCU’s academic resources to engage in collaborative learning with the community and foster intergroup interaction.
Integrate on- and off-campus resources across areas to address diverse community issues and challenges together.
